Update on Negotiations & General Assembly – February 8th (12:00-1:30) in B 223

On Wednesday, February 8th there will be a General Assembly at UB to discuss negotiations in B-223. All of the documents related to negotiations are attached for your perusal. There is a lot of information to process, but here is a brief summary of what has happened at both the Central and Sectoral Tables.

Central Table:
As you recall, the December government offers to the Front Commun were disappointing, to say the least. The 9-11% salary increase over 5 years is far from our demands of an indexation mechanism, and even below their own inflation predictions for the period – our demands were yearly increases of “inflation + a fixed percentage”. Our pension plan is under attack, the intent being to gradually decrease the RREGOP benefits, which would in effect cancel the bonifications of the Quebec pension plan RRQ over the next 30 years. The only satisfying aspect would be to increase the maximum age of RREGOP participation from 69 to 71. As for most of our other demands, they were ignored. Finally, in an attempt to split the Front Commun, the government proposes to create three distinct tables/forums for field-specific discussions (équipe Soins, équipe Classe, équipe Santé Mentale). These offers were already publicly refused by the Front Commun, we will have a motion in that sense our the GA on February 8.

Sectoral table:
Also, to be discussed at the GA are the sectoral table, cegep teachers’ specific demands. After a first back and forth between our negotiation committee and local unions, we will be able to amend and vote on the current cahier de demandes. Present at the GA will be Phil Lagogiannis from the negotiation committee, he will be able to summarize the current demands, answer our questions and expand on the negotiation strategy, especially in regards to Law 14. Please come prepared to the GA, relevant documents and additional information was sent to all members on January 27.
