News Bulletin 8, March 6, 2018

Insurance information *IMPORTANT*.
For income tax returns: Now that we only pay our portion at the pharmacy you will need to obtain a statement showing your total drug purchases and reimbursements for 2017.

  • See attached documents, Info #19, for more information. There is a link to The client center where you will find the Totals for tax purposes tab in the left-hand menu.  If you do not have a client space, you will first have to create one using the group and ID #s on your La Capitale Insurance card.

For retirees: To be eligible for the insurance policy, a pensioner must now be a member of the Fneeq pensioners association (AREF).

Resources Available for Cont Ed Teachers “after hours” – continued
One more item about services that are available to our teachers “after hours.”  Thanks again to K. Rose.

  • Print Shop:  Cont Ed teachers teaching night classes may request that their print jobs be delivered to the Cont Ed mailbox, which then would allow night teachers to pick up these materials before their classes, after the Print Shop window has closed.

First Day Absences – continued
In our last News Bulletin we encouraged “swapping” your class for your first absence, so as to not increase the FTE deficit we are facing and therefore:  save teachers from taking on more students, from teaching more hours, and help our teachers at the bottom of the hiring list to get more courses.  However, we hope everyone is aware that you are also permitted to cancel your first class, without a replacement.  The benefit to this is that you do not have to work more for being sick, which is a right we have earned.

March Break Availability
During this March Break, please know that we are as teachers “available” to the College.  If you are planning on going away, get a transfer of availability and avoid any hassle.

Institutional Policy for Students with Disabilities
The College has recently developed this policy. Teachers should know that the College is ultimately responsible to ensure accessibility. Teachers indeed have the obligation to collaborate with the implementation of the services, but what is required from us must respect the responsibilities conferred to the department in the collective agreement. For example: Access shouldn’t have the power to modify the content of an exam or the mode of evaluation. Fneeq has a guide which you may find useful to interpret your responsibilities, especially regarding: course notes, repeating classes that students have missed, if there are greater than 7 such students in your class, correcting drafts, etc.  We will publish an English version when it becomes available.

  • See attachment for the Fneeq guide. In particular, see pages 10-11 (1.2.2 A l’enseignement supérieur) and 21-22 (2.3.2 Exemples de contraintes excessives).
