Warning: La Capitale’s non-approved service providers
La Capitale has established a list of service providers which they believe are fraudulent.  They will no longer honour any receipts which we submit from them.  The list is available on our individual Espace client and will be updated regularly.
See:  Forms/ Medical and Paramedical.
Please find the current list attached.

New retirees
FNEEQ has a retirees Association: AREF. http://www.aref-neq.ca/

If you wish to avail yourself of the insurance plans (travel, health, life) you have 30 days from your official retirement date to do so.  You have to be an AREF member and maintain that membership.  Enrollment is optional but the decision to not enroll is irrevocable.

The Bureau Federal
The Bureau Federal is the deliberative council of the FNEEQ Exective. At the last FNEEQ Congress, our own Eric Durling was elected for a three-year mandate.  We are especially pleased as this will not only allow us to be more informed, it will also give us a strong voice and vote at this table.  Congrats Eric!

Save the dates!
We have established the General Assembly dates for the 2018 fall semester.  As was the case this year, we are varying the times so as to accommodate members’ different schedules.  Please mark these in your calendars now so to be available to participate at our GAs.

  • Thursday, September 5 – 6 pm
  • Wednesday, October 3 – UB
  • Wednesday, December 19 – 2pm

Estates General of Higher Education

During May 3 – 5, a few hundred participants of higher education gathered for the second Estates General in order to propose solutions to the concerns that have been gathered over the last year.  Various sectors of higher education attended, from support staff to students, professionals to university professors and cegep teachers.  Vanier had 5 teachers present who attended various panels and plenary sessions.  A summary was made that was presented to the political representatives from each provincial party.

  • Please find the full summary attached.

Of particular note to our members, the following items were addressed:

Work insecurity.  The difficulties of Cont Ed teachers were outlined and among key solutions proposed:

  •  Teachers should get the same pay and working conditions for the same job           and responsibilities.
  •  Family and work balance should be recognized.

Financing.

  • The PES (student weekly class period) formula as a mode of financing should be replaced so that the needs of the College and that of smaller programs are not negatively affected.
  • Financing should be raised according to the numbers of disadvantaged students enrolled.
  • The envelopes should be revised so to better respond to needs, e.g. more into F (fixed costs) and less into S (special projects).

Internationalization.  While a lot of the university professors were in favour of expanding internationalization to bolster their revenues, a few college teachers spoke to the need to stop viewing students as revenue but to be committed to educating our society

  • International agreements should be envisioned so as to exchange knowledge and culture.

FNEEQ Congress
The VCTA Executive together with members Stephanie Belmer, Hugo Casanova, Ingrid Mittmannsgruber and Janice Paquette went as voting delegates to the FNEEQ Congress in Sherbrooke (“Sherby”) from May 21-25.  We were extremely proud of our colleague Leila Bdeir who also came as an invited speaker May 23.

The Congress, which takes place every three years, focussed on inclusion of marginalized groups, better communication and advertising strategies for the next negotiations, mobilization, employment instability and Cont Ed conditions and the budget.

Importantly, the elections for the next FNEEQ Executive who will lead us into the negotiations in 2020 saw new members elected!  We have high hopes for a strong and effective team with (from left to right) :

Richard Bousquet, vice-président responsable du regroupement université, Benoit Lacoursière, secrétaire général et trésorier, Caroline Quesnel, présidente, Josée Chevalier, vice-présidente responsable du regroupement cégep, Léandre Lapointe, vice-président responsable du regroupement privé

Enjoy your well-deserved summer vacation !
