The Estates General for Higher Education
Starting tomorrow, Thursday May 3rd! Join in on the discussions with other key figures involved in higher education, from students to CEGEP teachers to contract teachers to university professors. The entire VCTA Executive is taking part and we warmly welcome any teacher to come with us to make a stand for higher education to be a priority for the upcoming provincial elections this October.  Main topics of discussion will be the financing and internationalization of higher education, administration and insecure or precarious employment.

  • Please see the attachment for the full agenda.
  • Let us know if you would like to join us (at UQAM, Salle Marie-Gerin-Lajoie, Pavillon Judith-Jasmin).

CEEC (evaluation commission for college education)
Our General Assembly met for a special assembly on April 4th and approved the FNEEQ motion on the CEEC.  Thus, Academic Council teacher representatives were mandated to vote against the “Self-evaluation Framework” for evaluating practices and tools here at Vanier, which they did to defeat the motion at Academic Council April 6th.  This action takes place in the context of quality assurance initiatives that are seeping into higher education across the globe that are transforming the objectives and the structures and procedures of higher education institutions.  In addition, the GA  motion asks of all teachers that:

a) No Vanier teacher participate in advisory committees related to the CEEC audit process or in other aspects of the process.

b) Vanier teachers transmit only pre-existing information for any request for information connected to the CEEC after removing names from all documents that are transmitted and without any synthesis or revision of the documents

  • For further context, please see the FNEEQ powerpoint, here attached.
  • For the full GA motion of April 4th, please refer to the message sent April 10th.

Happy Hour May 16th
Our end-of-year happy hour is coming up!  You are invited to what we hope will be a big party to celebrate the year.  Please remind your colleagues in your departments. We also want to celebrate our teachers who are retiring, so you are further invited to offer a few words in recognition and gratitude to anyone you know who is retiring this year.  Let us toast the year together!

  • See you May 16th at 4:30 in Jake’s Mall!

Science Program Petition
We are circulating the FNEEQ petition against the current science program revision proposal — which is suspended by the Ministry of Education until the end of the summer — in order to show our support with other colleges at FNEEQ and strengthen our collective voice.  Instead we are demanding a rewriting of the proposal to be developed by teachers and to take into consideration teachers’ concerns.

  • Add you name to the call by signing the petition!  Petitions are available in both union lounges, C-101 and N-127.

Eye-glasses Found
Prescription glasses with purple frames have been found in the union lounge.  Come pick them up in C-101.
